Access to Modules

This section covers information on how to gain/provide access to modules, along with where and how to do it, to help with module delivery and grading. This information may be helpful for School/College administrative staff and module coordinators.

Module Access Management allows Module Coordinators and School Administrators to view and amend who has access to the module/modules in their school. A range of different roles can be assigned, which allows individuals to view and amend specific information relating to the module. Please refer to the 'Types of Access' section below for more information on this.

Providing additional access to modules can be key in terms of assisting with the delivery and grading of modules. It's important to note that it's the responsibility of the Schools/Colleges to ensure that access granted to modules is accurate and up to date.

The different types of access roles that can be granted are:

  • Module Coordinator (Assigned via Module List Management)
  • Module Assistant
  • Lecturer/Co-Lecturer
  • Assistant Grader
  • Tutor
  • Subject Extern Examiner
  • VLE/Brightspace Access Only (Access can take up to 24 Hours)

A full description of the access roles and more details can be found on the Module Access Management FAQ page.

When will a new person's access rights be reflected in the systems?

  • Grade Entry - Within 20 Minutes
  • Class Lists, Grading Lists, Student Feedback, Extenuating Circumstances, Module Enhancement, Exceptional Grade Change Request - Within 1 Hour
  • VLE/Brightspace - Within 24 Hours

Who can assign access?

Module Coordinators can assign individuals all roles except Subject Extern Examiner, while School Administrators can assign individuals all roles except Lecturer/Co-Lecturer and Module Assistant.

How is access assigned?

Module Coordinators can assign access through the Manage My Modules - Who has Access? menu in Module Access Management.

School Administrators can assign access through the Who Has Access to Module Data in My School menu in Module Access Management.

To grant access: Click View data access details. Click Grant Access to this Module. Enter the name of the person. Select a role. Click Submit.

The Advanced Options section can be used to ensure that Tutors are displayed against the correct CRNs on Class Lists, and change when data can be viewed. This section can also be used to backdate access, if required.

If you need assistance, please refer to our detailed Module Access Management User Guide on how to assign/remove/amend access to modules. If you are somewhat familiar with this system, you might prefer to take a look at our Module Access Management Checklist instead for a brief overview.
