National Research Integrity Survey 2025

The Survey on Research Integrity in Ireland 2025 (SRII2025) is now open until the end of July. The SRII2025 is commissioned by the National Research Integrity Forum and funded by the Higher Education Authority. This provides a national basis for the survey and a safe platform, since a trusted external survey provider will be an ‘honest broker’ for collecting completely anonymised data, and the UCD team conducting the analysis will never receive any information that identifies individuals or their institutions.

While we strive to do our best as researchers, the challenges are many; some are unique to our field, and others are common to us all, including maintaining integrity in our research. We still know so little about precisely why and how often issues with maintaining research integrity occur, what an ideal research environment looks like or what working conditions encourage or hinder responsible research practices.

This is your opportunity to make your voice heard about the factors that help or hinder you in ensuring integrity in your research. You can access the survey link through a dedicated website: (opens in a new window)https://srii2025.ie/

This survey is important to us all because the data we collect will enable us to assess the relative influence of factors that help or hinder responsible research practices and whether these depend on academic structures, research discipline and career stage. Such factors may include perceptions of organisational justice, behavioural norms, work pressure, mentoring, and social support. We have made significant progress in Ireland, but we recognise that there is still much more to be done.

We need your help to get better evidence on what works. The survey is intended for all thoseactively engaged in research for at least eight hours per week, including faculty, research scientists, research fellows, postdoctoral researchers and post-graduate students. We acknowledge the importance of other research support staff, such as technical officers, research managers and research administrators, in the Irish research system. However, to ensure full comparability with similar international surveys, we have not included them in this study.

What do we mean by “Research Integrity”? It is the way we do our research, our behaviours and attitudes to each other in our work, how we value the contributions of others involved in our research and how our research is communicated. Research integrity ensures thehighest quality and most rigorous standards of scholarship, building trust

We hope you will take the time to share your views with the project team by completing thisANONYMOUS 25-minute survey.(opens in a new window)CLICK HERE for the SRII 2025 webpage, containing more information about this initiative and the link to the survey.
