My advice to potential students and researchers is ‘it’s never too late to start’ your adventure in third level education! I began my studies for a degree in Social Science in my mid-forties and I could never have imagined that it would be the first step in an incredible journey in education. Culminating in the pursuit of a research PhD in Sociology, examining the importance of the role of fathers in contemporary Ireland. I was also actively encouraged and supported by the school to apply for a post-graduate scholarship from the Irish Research Council and I was awarded this valuable scholarship.
