About the Journal
The Scholarly Scroll @ UCD showcases outstanding undergraduate and postgraduate work across the discipline — from empirically grounded research to critical essays, methods notes, reviews, and creative sociological writing. Pieces are double-anonymised and edited by a student board with guidance from faculty advisors.

Eligibility
-
Current UCD Sociology UG or PG student (including joint honours and taught/research Masters/PhD) in 2025/26. Prior editing experience welcome but not required.
How to apply

Submit a short statement (max 300 words) on your interests and preferred role(s).

Attach a CV (max 2 pages).

(Optional) Include a sample of academic writing or design work.

Successful applicants will be notified on a rolling basis.

We invite original student work that advances sociological understanding.
What we publish

Research Articles: 3,000–6,000 words
-
Short Essays/Notes: 1,200–2,500 words
-
Methods or Data Visualisation Notes: 800–1,800 words (include code appendix if relevant)

Book/Media Reviews: 800–1,200 words
- Visual Sociology: high quality images

Field/Community Reports & Reflexive Pieces: 1,000–2,500 words
Themes (illustrative, not exhaustive)
Inequality & social policy; race, class, gender & sexuality; migration & borders; health & illness; environment & climate justice; digital societies & AI; work & organisations; culture & media; criminology & deviance; education; urban/rural change; Ireland in comparative perspective; global South perspectives.
Submission guidelines

Use Harvard referencing.
-
Include a 150–200 word abstract + 3–5 keywords.

Double-space, 12pt font, page numbers; anonymise the manuscript (no names/IDs in file).

Separate title page with author name(s), programme/level, and contact email.

Confirm the work is original and not under review elsewhere.

Recognition
Published authors receive a link on the journal site and an editor’s letter for your portfolio.
