This page has been set up in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to highlight key resources on designing for blended and online learning and upcoming training/development opportunities for faculty and staff with teaching responsibilities.

Blended and Online Learning Design

In the blended and online learning design section you will find guidance on the different phases involved in designing and developing effective blended/online learning. The approach adopted draws on the ADDIE Instructional Design model, which defines five phases:

  1. Analysis
  2. Design
  3. Development
  4. Implementation
  5. Evaluation


UCD Educational Technologies

Guidance on the pedagogical application of UCD Educational Technologies is also provided, including a section containing Brightspace Guides and guidance on using the Virtual Classroom (Collaborate).

Advice on how to set-up and use various tools and technologies is available from UCD IT Services.

Webinars

Re-designing your module for blended/online learning 

This 1.5 hour interactive session will overview the design steps and principles of online learning. It will explore how to redesign learning and assessment materials/activities and to select the appropriate educational technologies. It will also provide guidance on how to present your module in Brightspace.

This one-hour interactive session aims to explore principles and some examples to assist in the design of assessments for the online learning environment.

Teaching online & supporting online learners

This 1.5 hour interactive session will explore the role of the lecturer during the various stages of delivery of online learning. It will provide guidance on how to scaffold learning and support online learners through the creation of a community of learners. It will suggest which Brightspace tools that can best utilised to support this.
