Irish Social Policy Association Conference

At the annual conference of the Irish Social Policy Association Dr Michelle Norris will speak at the opening plenary together with Professor Séan Ó Riain (Maynooth University). The conference is held on Friday 1 July at the Carmelite Centre in Dublin and is the national conference for social policy scholars and practitioners in the republic. Moreover, three colleagues from our school will give papers related to the conference theme Social Policy in Recession and Recovery. Dr Karen Smith (social justice) presents a paper on “Beyond the Discourse of Investment: Policy for Children in Ireland”, Dr Sarah Donnelly (social work) talks about “’I’d prefer to stay at home but I don't have a choice’ Meeting Older People’s Preference for Care: Policy, but what about practice?” and Dr Stephan Köppe (social policy) gives a paper on “Resilience in times of crisis. Upper middle class households coping strategies in England and Scotland”. In addition, Dr Michelle Norris chairs a session on housing and Prof Philip O’Connell (UCD Geary Institute and School of Social Policy, Social Work and Social Justice) chairs the session on Labour Market Issues. We wish all our presenters an inspiring conference and fruitful discussions. Further details can be obtained at the ISPA website: (opens in a new window)www.ispa.ie.
