The UCD Strategic Campus Development Plan 2016-2021-2026 promotes the development of three Character Areas. Each Character Area has a coherent identity but will be interconnected in a variety of ways. This approach facilitates contiguous space for education, research and innovation activities, and a dedicated sports and recreation area, while planning for a coherent and integrated student residential accommodation precinct.
Each Character Areas will concentrate on a primary use within the given areas with the provision of other complementary and supporting uses as appropriate. Character Areas will be linked through a network of green routes for cyclists and pedestrians.
Car parks will be located around the periphery of the campus in order to enhance the pedestrian zone at the academic core of the campus.
The campus contains a rich variety of built form, landscaping and pedestrian friendly environments and will be enhanced by future developments
