2023 UCD EGA Distinguished Graduate Award

Each year, the EGA recognises a standout UCD Engineering graduate with the Distinguished Graduate Award for their exceptional contributions to society. This tradition, which began in 2002, is the highlight on the EGA’s annual calendar. This year, the 2023 UCD EGA Distinguished Graduate Award was presented to (opens in a new window)Róisín Quinn, National Grid (BE Electrical 2004).

Roisin Quinn is an accomplished leader in the energy sector with a distinguished career over almost two decades, since she graduated from UCD with a first class bachelor degree in UCD Electrical Engineering in 2004.

Following her graduation, she embarked on her professional journey by joining (opens in a new window)National Grid's Graduate Scheme, marking the commencement of her remarkable career path within the organisation. Roisin has held various key roles within National Grid and she currently serves as the Director of Customer Connection where she is responsible for connecting energy projects to the national transmission system. She oversees a team of engineers and professionals who help applicants through the process, delivering an increasing number of connections, particularly from low- and zero-carbon power sources. Her leadership extends beyond her organisation, as she serves as Vice Chair on the Board of RenewablesUK and as a Member of the Advisory Board to the Energy Futures Lab at Imperial College.

Roisin is passionate about supporting engineers starting out in their careers in the energy industry, mentoring a number of young engineers at National Grid and she is an active member of (opens in a new window)National Grid’s Women in Engineering network where she helps to raise awareness of diversity and inclusion issues in the energy industry, promote professional development among female engineers and encourage the next generation of young talent to help shape the future of electricity.

In 2022 Roisin Quinn was awarded an Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the Honorary awards to foreign nationals list as part of the British Queen’s 2022 Birthday Honours. The EGA are delighted to have been able to welcome Roisin back to UCD to present her with this award and look forward to seeing what else she accomplishes in her already successful career.
