Writing Place, Writing Planet

Where literature meets science...

We are delighted to introduce Writing Place, Writing Planet, a fully-funded 6-month environmental creative writing programme beginning March 2026 sponsored by The UCD Mary Lavin Centre for Creative Writing at the School of English, Drama and Film and iCRAG Research Ireland Centre for Applied Geosciences.

Writing Place, Writing Planet invites writers and scientists to team up and explore connections between humanity, place and planet through bodies of co-created written work, guided by expert mentorship. Inspired by Writing the Earth, the pilot programme run by The Irish Writers Centre and iCRAG in 2023, and Writing the Environment, a place-based, interdisciplinary creative writing undergraduate module run by Paula McGrath, now in its fifth year, Writing Place, Writing Planet seeks to deepen collaborations between science and the arts through conversation, written word and imagination.

We are seeking three eligible writers to take part in this programme. To learn more about Writing Place, Writing Planet please download and read the programme description. To apply, please ensure you have read the full programme description and complete the writer's (opens in a new window)application form by 5pm February 16th 2026.
