Auto-Enrolment Pension Scheme “My Future Fund”
What is Auto-Enrolment? Auto-Enrolment is a new government initiative designed to ensure that all eligible workers in Ireland have a retirement savings fund. Under this new system, employees who do not already have a pension plan will be automatically enrolled into a state-managed pension scheme known as "My Future Fund" once they meet the criteria listed below.
Who will be enrolled? You will be automatically enrolled if you meet all of the following criteria:
- You are aged between 23 and 60.
- You earn €20,000 or more per year.
- You are not currently paying into a pension scheme through payroll. Personal pensions not linked to payroll do not prevent enrolment
National Automatic Enrolment Retirement Saving Authority (NAERSA) uses a rolling 13-week lookback period to check gross earnings. If an employee earns €5,000 or more in this period, they become eligible.
When does it start? The scheme is scheduled to go live for employee contributions on 1 January 2026. Employer and State contributions will also commence from this date.
My Future Fund Account Access: When you are automatically enrolled by NAERSA, in order to view and manage your account, you must use your verified MyGovID credentials to log in to the My Future Fund Employee Portal. If you do not have a verified MyGovID, please set one up now at (opens in a new window)mygovid.ie. If you have any specific queries about your eligibility, contribution calculations, or opting out, you will need to contact NAERSA directly.
⚠️ Important Information for Our Current Staff
If you are already a member of a UCD pension scheme (or have your own PRSA contributed to via payroll), Auto-Enrolment does NOT apply to you.
You do not need to take any action. You will continue with your current pension arrangement as normal, and you will not be enrolled in the new government scheme.
What This Means for Your Payroll
It is important to understand that UCD’s Payroll Office will be responsible for enrolling and collecting the deductions based on instructions we receive directly from NAERSA.
- We act as the collection agent only.
- We will not be able to change your enrolment status or process refunds, as these actions are managed centrally by NAERSA.
- UCD’s Pensions Office will continue to administer the UCD Pension Schemes and have no role in My Future Fund.
