In the vibrant summer of 2023, our UCD School of Agriculture and Food Science had the privilege of hosting a talented intern, Ceylin Ozten from Izmir Democracy University (Turkey), as part of the European Commission Erasmus Traineeship Programme. Under the capable guidance of our academic staff Dr. Mohammadreza Khalesi, Ceylin embarked on a journey of learning, discovery, and skill-building that left an indelible mark on both her and our institution.

Diving into Sustainability and Plant Proteins
Ceylin's internship was centred around the fascinating realm of sustainability and plant proteins. During her tenure, she engaged in intensive laboratory research, with a particular focus on oat proteins. Her dedication and enthusiasm led to a notable progress in this field.

A Multifaceted Skill Set
Throughout her internship, Ceylin honed her expertise across various aspects of her research domain. She acquired valuable skills in protein analysis, extraction, and characterisation. Her work also involved the intricate processes of drying and in vitro digestion, shedding light on the complexities of nutritional quality assessment.

Ceylin's journey extended beyond the laboratory. She actively participated in team projects, fostering collaboration and enhancing her ability to work effectively within a group.
