We welcome new GDIC teacher, Dr Mohd Faheem Khan

Dr Faheem Khan
I obtained my PhD (2018) in ‘exploring molecular adaptations of extremophilic proteins: a platform for protein engineering’ from the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG). My first postdoctoral research focused on ‘engineering surfactant-tolerant enzymes for cosmetic formulations’ at the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST), South Korea. Subsequently, I was honoured with the Government of Ireland Postdoctoral Fellowship from the Irish Research Council (2019-2021), leading to my second postdoctoral research at the School of Biomolecular and Biomedical Science (SBBS), University College Dublin (UCD), where I delved into ‘microbial and enzymatic biocatalysis for degrading pollutants, drugs, and other xenobiotics’. Additionally, I served as a Teaching Fellow and Senior Technical Officer at SBBS, UCD (2021-2023).
Currently, I am a Lecturer/Assistant Professor in Environmental and Applied Microbiology appointed through the GDIC Programme at the UCD School of Agriculture and Food Science. I teach modules of microbiology, biochemistry, soil science, and circular bioeconomy to undergraduate and postgraduate (MSc) students, while supervising stage 4 undergraduates, MSc, and PhD students in their research projects. My research focuses on soil microbiome potentials, novel microbe characterization, microbial biofilms, fungal biology, metagenomics, and enzyme applications in environmental remediation, agriculture, and food sectors, covering biocatalysis/biodegradation, enzyme engineering, computational biology and nano-enzyme immobilization.
Welcome to GDIC team!
