Regional Merit Based Scholarships

This  Scholarship Programme, funded by the UCD School of Geography, supports academically exceptional students currently residing in India, China, or North America (the US and Canada). Recipients will act as ambassadors for their programme and the School during their studies and beyond graduation.

The Scholarship Programme aims to attract outstanding candidates to selected MSc and MA programmes within the School and to encourage early applications by offering recipients a scholarship award of up to 40% of tuition fees.

These scholarships are available exclusively to applicants residing in India, China or North America who are classified as non-EU for tuition fee purposes.

Scholarships are offered to self-funded candidates who have received an offer (firm or conditional) for an eligible full-time MSc or MA programme. Applicants must have completed the full application process and met all admission requirements. Scholarship recipients will be selected on the basis of academic merit.

Applicants to the following programmes are eligible for the Scholarship:

  • MA Critical Geographies (Full Time) – up to one scholarship available – to candidates from US and Canada

  • MSc GIS and Remote Sensing (Full Time) – up to one scholarship available –  to candidates from  China and India

  • MSc Urban Data Analytics (Full Time) – up to one scholarship available –  to candidates from China and India

The process is very straightforward. Students do not need to apply separately to be considered for these specific programme based Scholarships. All the applications to eligible programmes will be assessed by UCD Global.  successful eligible applicants for these programmes received by the application deadline are automatically considered. 

  • Following notification of an offer for the Regional Merit Based Scholarship, students must accept their scholarship offer online within the timeframe communicated in the Offer Letter. Failure to do so  will be considered as declining the scholarship offer. 
  • A declined or lapsed offer for the Regional Merit Based Scholarship cannot be reinstated. 
  • UCD School of Geography reserves the right to discontinue or modify the scholarship scheme or any component thereof, and to revise any or all of the scholarship requirements, processes, or eligibility criteria, at any time in the future. 
  • By accepting the  Regional Merit Based Scholarship, students commit to contributing to platforms and activities such as: social media and website content, surveys, discussion groups, additional events or activities for the promotion of UCD. 
  •  A student who withdraws, cancels, becomes inactive, enrols less than full-time, is suspended or dismissed from the University will lose their scholarship eligibility. If a student’s enrolment status is changed to any of the aforementioned statuses due to medical reasons (or other approved extenuating circumstances), their scholarship will be reinstated upon return to normal, full-time enrolment at UCD (please see UCD's Extenuating Circumstances Policy for further information).

Scholarships Notice

Candidates may apply for a number of scholarships, if they are successful in attaining more than one scholarship, however, they may only accept one scholarship bursary. Scholarship bursaries cannot be added together or combined.

If a candidate is successful in being offered more than one scholarship award, they will receive the scholarship of higher financial value, unless otherwise requested by the candidate. Candidates cannot transfer or use one scholarship or bursary between or against another programme. Scholarships and bursaries are also not allowed to be deferred to a future academic year, it is only applicable and awarded to the student for the year they are offered a place in UCD Geography. If a student, subsequently, decides to defer their offer they will lose their scholarship or bursary and be required to apply in the future.

If candidates are in receipt of a SUSI grant they are not eligible to receive a scholarship .
