Research Statement

The School of Geography conducts research on a variety of issues in human and physical geography. School research is diverse but it coalesces around interventions to address real world problems guided by strong theoretical foundations. In particular, the School has been very active in its focus on environmental issues and social justice, from both critical and technical perspectives. For example, on the human side, staff expertise includes urban and international development geography, geopolitics, spatial justice, public policy, critical theory, sexualities and gender geographies, historical geography and cultural geography. On the physical and environmental side, staff expertise includes environmental assessment and change, environmental risk, planetary and river geomorphology, climatology, GIS and remote sensing.

The School's culture is inclusive and all staffpostdoctoral researchersPhD and Masters students participate in research. The school runs an exciting research seminar series and innovative research events driven by postdoctoral researchers.
