Three University College Dublin (UCD)–led projects will receive part of a €3 million national investment to support mental health research in Ireland. The funding will support ten projects in total, focusing on areas such as youth mental health, women’s mental health, ADHD in adults and loneliness in older people. Of the total funding, €1 million will establish an all-island Collaborative Research Network in mental health led by Maynooth University, with the remaining €2 million allocated to individual projects.

The funded UCD projects include:

  • Project ACCESS, which examines the use of Single-Session Therapy for young people in Jigsaw Ireland to improve timely access to youth mental health care.

  • An integrated women’s mental health service project, which aims to develop evidence-based approaches to better identify and support women with mental health needs linked to gynaecological conditions.

  • A smoking cessation initiative within mental health services, which will survey current practices, develop clinical guidelines and pilot tailored interventions for people with severe mental illness.

Together, these projects aim to improve access, integration and quality of mental health services across Ireland.
