The NUI Irish Historical Research Prize, offered in alternate years for the best new work of original Irish historical research by an NUI graduate, was this year awarded to Dr Elva Johnston for her monograph (opens in a new window)Literacy and Identity in Early Medieval Ireland (Boydell and Brewer, 2013). Irish Historical Studies described Literacy and Identity as a ‘landmark publication’.
