UCD Sutherland School of Law welcomes Erasmus and International Exchange students

University College Dublin is Ireland's largest and most richly diversified University. Today UCD is a vibrant, modern university situated on a spacious and leafy campus some 5km to the south of Dublin city centre.

To study at UCD Sutherland School of Law as an Erasmus exchange student you must be from one of the partner universities listed below and you must be selected and nominated by your home university.

Term dates

UCD runs its academic year with three trimesters, exchange students can study for either the Autumn Trimester (September to December), the Spring Trimester (January to May) or the full academic year (September to May). For information on term dates and other useful information click here.

Exam dates

UCD examination sessions run at the end of each trimester. December for the Autumn Trimester and May for the Spring Trimester. 

Nomination/Application Deadlines*

Students need to be nominated by their home university before they are contact by UCD Law exchanges inviting them to apply online.

Full Academic year and Autumn Trimester: Nomination by 1 May, apply online by 15 May

Spring Trimester: Nomination by 1 October, apply online by 15 October

*Some years dates may differ if fall on weekends/public holidays. Partners and Nominated students will be given information in advance of any changes

Who can come to study at UCD Law on an International/Erasmus/European Exchange programme?

Only students from partners with an existing exchange agreement can come under this programme. Students should contact their home Law School/Global office to check if they are eligible to apply to study at UCD Sutherland School of Law.

Students wishing to take a language module should look at information at https://www.ucd.ie/cegl/  registration for language classes is managed by the UCD Centre for English and Global Languages.

Students wishing to apply must first complete the selection process with their home university and be officially nominated to UCD.

After nomination all exchange students need to apply using the online system. Once you have been nominated your details will be sent to the School of Law and you will be sent instructions and invited to apply.

Students’ applications will not be processed unless their home institution has sent nomination details to UCD School of Law/UCD Global.

Students who need to submit English language results as a supporting document with their online application can either upload official language results or a letter from their home university confirming their proficiency and ability to follow all courses through English.

Accommodation / Residences / Housing

Information on accommodation application dates will be sent to students directly once UCD Residences confirm the details – students who wish to avail of campus accommodation will then need to apply directly through UCD Residences office using SISWeb. Please note accommodation is not guaranteed.

Please note in previous years only a limited amount of places have been made available for European exchange students and not until late in the process (August). Therefore we strongly recommend you research off-campus housing. The Residences office can also assist students with this and further information can be found by clicking here
