Congratulations to the Student Summer Research Award 2025 winners!

The Student Summer Research Awards (SSRA) have concluded for 2025. The SSRA programme, coordinated by Dr Melinda Halasz, is a five credit eight-week elective module which provides an ideal opportunity for undergraduate students to undertake a supervised research project.  

152 students participated in the programme and on 16 September they presented their research posters to 14 panels of adjudicators. The 10 highest ranked students were selected to present their research in the Moore Auditorium on 24 September. 

Congratulations to Eliana Muszysnki who was awarded the Gold Medal for her research project titled 3D Organoid Modelling of Uterine Fibroids: A Platform to Probe Microenvironment Drivers of Metabolic/ Antioxidant Reprogramming and Screen Therapeutics. Eliana was supervised by Dr Soriful Islam at Johns Hopkins University. 

The Silver Medal was awarded to Finn Davidson for his project Developing a zebrafish model of Stargardt disease. Finn was supervised by Dr Alison Reynolds from the School of Veterinary Medicine.

The Bronze medal winner was Rohan Tewari who conducted his research on Assessing the Clinical Utility of Finite Element Analysis as a Pre-Operative Surgical Planning Tool with Professor Joseph Butler from the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital.

Ke Yi Lee was awarded the Dr Mary J. Farrell Bursary for best project in General Practice. 

Claire Grencikova was awarded the Claire O'Connor Summer Student Scholarship in Respiratory Research.

Maryam Anwaar received the SSRA Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Medicine scholarship.

The Gaensler Scholarship was awarded to Meabh Killalea.

The Belclare Research Bursaries were awarded to Eliana Muszynski & Rosie McFadyen.

Professor Cormac Taylor, Associate Dean for Research Innovation and Impact, presented the awards. 

Congratulations to all of the students who participated and sincere thanks to all of the adjudicators.
