UCD Clinical Research Centre launches Clinical Trials Directory on International Clinical Trials Day (ICTD) 2025

Marking International Clinical Trials Day (ICTD) 2025 today, University College Dublin Clinical Research Centre (UCD CRC) is proud to announce the launch of its new Clinical Trials Directory, an accessible and user-friendly resource designed to provide patients, caregivers, and the public with up-to-date information about clinical trials taking place at UCD CRC.

Developed with transparency and accessibility in mind, the UCD CRC Clinical Trials Directory empowers individuals to learn about ongoing and upcoming research studies in a clear, easy-to-navigate format. The Directory includes trial summaries, eligibility criteria, contact details, and links to further information—helping patients make informed decisions about participating in clinical research. Currently, the Directory houses 18 open trials across a broad spectrum of medical areas, with more to be added. Prospective patients can search by Clinical Area, Condition, and key words.

“This is a major step toward strengthening public engagement and trust in clinical research,” said Professor Peter Doran, Director of UCD Clinical Research Centre, UCD School of Medicine. “By making trial information more visible and easier to understand, we hope to promote awareness of the important work being done at UCD CRC and encourage participation in studies that can shape the future of healthcare.”

Clinical trials help healthcare systems make informed decisions about treatment options for patients, and drive patient-centred care. By participating in trials, patients often gain access to cutting-edge therapies that are not yet available, potentially leading to better outcomes and quality of life. Through their structured approach, clinical trials provide a framework for evaluating the safety and effectiveness of new medical interventions, ensuring the best science is implemented to the benefit of patients.

This year’s theme for ICTD is "Rethinking Clinical Trials: Inclusivity in Practice," highlighting the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion in clinical research. The Clinical Trials Directory reflects UCD CRC’s ongoing commitment to advancing ethical, patient-centered research that addresses real-world health challenges. With this new tool, UCD CRC aims to connect more patients with opportunities to contribute to the development of new diagnostics, treatments, and therapies.

The launch of the Directory also aligns with broader national and international efforts to improve transparency and accessibility in clinical research. By giving the public a clearer window into current research activity, UCD CRC supports a more informed and engaged community.

UCD Clinical Research Centre is supported by the Health Research Board.
