UCD and SVUH host the Centre for Respiratory Disease 16th International Meeting

Today, UCD and St. Vincent’s University Hospital (SVUH) hosted the Centre for Respiratory Disease 16th International Meeting.

The Meeting took place in SVUH’s Education and Research Centre. The focus for the day was Investigation and Management of Respiratory Disease (State of the Art) and was divided into three key sessions:

  • Novel therapies in pulmonary medicine
  • Mechanisms and markers of lung disease
  • Predicting progression and therapeutic response

Congratulations and thanks to the key organisers of the event – UCD School of Medicine’s Prof Cormac McCarthy, Dr Alessandro Franciosi and Dr Marcus Butler.

The Centre for Respiratory Disease at SVUH has a long and proud history in the management of patients with respiratory diseases from throughout Ireland. The Centre includes national referral specialties in adult cystic fibrosis, interstitial lung diseases and sleep-related breathing disorders. Through close links with University College Dublin, the Centre has become a leading International Centre for translational research in respiratory disease. The Centre provides an outstanding opportunity for clinical training and research in respiratory disease.

Attendees were from several disciplines including Consultant Physicians, GPs, Respiratory SpR's, Respiratory ANPs and Respiratory Physiologists.

The primary outcomes for the event were:

  • General respiratory education 
  • Building research connections with international colleagues and institutions
  • Fostering collaboration amongst the respiratory community.
