Research

UCD CAR is a translational research lab, where rheumatologists, clinical fellows, research nurses, biomedical scientists and computational biologists carry out arthritis related research.

We aim to discover and characterize new disease mechanisms, with a focus on rheumatoid arthritis.  Next-generation patient population sequencing is used to identify molecules associated with disease or treatment response. Next, we use molecular and cellular biology to characterize each molecule's role in joint function or disease.

Finally, we look at new strategies to target these molecules, to develop new treatments or to find new ways of stratifying patients so that each patient gets the correct treatment for them.

UCD Monthly Rheumatology Research Meetings

UCD CAR holds monthly rheumatology research meetings alternately at UCD Conway Institute.

The meetings take place on the third Friday of each month and cover the latest research for a clinical and scientific audience, and they feature guest speakers from universities across Ireland and Europe.

Please email rheumatology@ucd.ie to be added to the meeting mailing list.
