Professional Certificate Emergencies in Sports and Exercise Medicine
Course Overview
This Certificate offers a unique opportunity for sports and exercise medicine (SEM) doctors and physiotherapists to acquire a deeper knowledge and skill set in managing the emergency scenarios they may experience in their day-to-day work.
In a supportive learning environment, this course will provide the practitioner with the knowledge, skills and competencies required to manage pitch-side emergencies (within their scope of practice). It explores the evidence base for current clinical practice guidelines and provides a practical and systematic approach for dealing with pre-hospital emergencies.
There is a particular emphasis on the practical skills and the pharmacology/therapeutics needed to manage the broad range of life-threatening emergencies encountered in SEM.
Course Structure and Attendance
Delivered over one trimester, this course will consist of 7 half day teaching sessions and 3 full day practical sessions and uses a variety of learning strategies in recognition of the time constraints associated with full time clinical practice.
