ACLS Training

UCD interns receive mandatory life support training including a programme with a New Science Video and evaluation in CPR/AED during hospital induction week.

Clinical Skills Training

Clinical Skills training is facilitated at the UCD hospital sites to better prepare an intern for commencement of their UCD intern post. The clinical skills training is a direct assessment of communication (explanation), approach, technique with feedback provided by the method of Directly Observed Workshop facilitated by our UCD Intern Lecturer.

Induction Clinical Skills Workshops
Clinical skills workshops are scheduled during hospital induction week to cover urinary catheter training, ABGs, IVCs and NGs. Trainers will be required to complete a directly observed procedure form with assessment in the areas of obtaining consent, understanding indications and procedure technique, appropriate pre-procedure preparation, aseptic technique, post procedure management, communication, seeking help if needed, professionalism and overall ability to perform procedure.

Immediate Care Courses

The Centre for Emergency Medical Science at UCD facilitates training courses for healthcare professionals, and UCD Intern Network has collaborated with CEMS to offer Immediate Care Trauma and Immediate Care Paediatrics courses for our interns. These courses are fully funded by the HSE and participation is encouraged throughout the intern year.
