This Professional Certificate is open to all individuals with an interest in disability, including but not limited to, people with disabilities, family members and people who work in the disability field.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this micro-credential, you will:

  • Review and critique the contemporary theories and principles in behavioural change science.
  • Critically appraise and evaluate the validity of behavioural support models including the Multi-Element Model.
  • Identify and design systems that support the provision and evaluation of behavioural support services.
  • Critically appraise and evaluate the validity of behavioural support models including the Multi-Element Model.
  • Analyse and critique legislation, policy, research, media and professional standards as they relate to behavioural support.

Students will learn valuable knowledge about behavioural change science and learn skills to critically appraise behavioural support models.

Teaching and learning will be based on collaborative enquiry that encourages the student to draw upon their experiences and knowledge. This will be facilitated through the medium of lectures, group work, group discussion, critique and debate, case studies, student presentation, guided study, self-directed learning, and personal reflection.

This is a 10 ECTS micro-credential and involves approximately 200-250 hours of learner effort.

  • Entry requirements are a primary degree with a minimum 2.2 classification (second class honours , grade two) or International equivalent.
  • Applicants whose first language is not English must also demonstrate English language proficiency of IELTS 7.0 (no band less than 6.5 in each element), or equivalent.

Micro-Credentials Learner Fee Subsidy-Human Capital Initiative Pillar 3

The HCI Pillar 3 Micro-credential Learner Fee Subsidy has been introduced to enable more learners to address critical skills gaps and engage with lifelong learning through micro-credentials. The HCI Pillar 3 Micro-credential Learner Fee Subsidy is funded by Higher Education Authority (HEA) and the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science. 

HCI Micro-credential Learner Fee Subsidies are available on identified micro-credentials only and in fixed numbers from March 2024 until October 2025.
