Finding & Managing Hunter–Gatherer Archaeological Sites in Mountain Landscapes
VIRTUAL WORKSHOP
Friday Nov 25 th 2022. 1pm-5pm UTC
This virtual workshop focuses on comparative approaches to locating and managing hunter- gatherer archaeological sites in the mountains. Such sites are often small and ephemeral and present considerable challenges for site prospection and appropriate protection. The archaeological record of hunter-gatherer sites in different mountain regions is often shaped by very distinctive research and landscape histories, making direct comparisons challenging. Case studies from the Austrian, Italian and Swiss Alps, India and Scotland will be presented followed by a round table discussion to highlight key issues and compare experiences.
This workshop is part of ‘Looking Up: the future of early prehistoric heritage in Europe’s mountains’ (IRC COALESCE/2021/78)
