Why should I attend?

CROPREVIVE is focusing on three underutilised crops in Ireland: emmer wheat, peas and rye. Emmer wheat was the most important crop in Ireland for thousands of years in the past but is rarely grown nowadays. Rye and peas are grown today, but not as widely as in the past. The project aims to promote awareness of the opportunities and benefits from growing diverse crops, and to contribute to a more sustainable tillage industry in Ireland. This event is your opportunity to learn more about these crops and provide your perspective on opportunities and challenges for increased production.

The CROPREVIVE team will share their findings on where, when and to what extent emmer wheat, rye and peas were grown in Ireland over the past 6000 years. An analysis of modern farming practices will also be provided, including production hotspots, yield potential, and the benefits and challenges of cultivating these crops.

The project is funded by the Irish Research Council COALESCE Scheme (2022–2024; Strand 2A; Project ID: COALESCE/2022/1647).
