Global Chemistry Leadership: Dr. Fun Man Fung Featured in ACS 150th Anniversary Series

DUBLIN - As the American Chemical Society (ACS) celebrates its historic 150th anniversary in 2026, a member of the University College Dublin faculty has been selected to help launch the global fesitivities.

We are delighted to share that Dr. Fun Man Fung, Assistant Professor at the UCD School of Chemistry, is the featured guest for the January instalment of the ACS "Chemistry is Everything" video series. Dr. Fung was chosen to speak on the critical theme of Leadership, setting the tone for a year-long celebration of the human stories behind scientific progress.

"Chemistry is everything"

To mark its sesquicentennial, the ACS is moving beyond the periodic table to spotlight the people who drive the discipline forward. The "Chemistry is Everything" series releases a new video each month, exploring powerful themes like integrity, progress, and resilience through the voice of a single, distinguished guest.

Fun Man's selection as the inaugural voice on Leadership underscores his reputation not just as a researcher, but as a transformative educator. In the feature, he discusses his philosophy that true leadership in science isn't about personal accolades - it is about catalysing potential in others.

By focusing on the "human element" of chemistry, Fun Man points out that the reactions we foster between people are just as vital as those molecules we observe in the flask.
