About the course

Designed to provide research students with an overview of the latest research developments across the breadth of the biological sciences, to advance their ability to critically assess scientific methodologies and data, and to demonstrate how best to deliver succinct, clear and logical scientific presentations.

Course structure

The module is delivered over the full academic year and each student is required to attend a minimum of 60% of the CLASS seminars during this time. Given current public health guidelines, seminars will be online until mid-December at least.

Credit requirements

This module is designed to provide research students with an overview of the latest research developments across the breadth of the biological sciences, to advance their ability to critically assess scientific methodologies and data, and to demonstrate how best to deliver succinct, clear and logical scientific presentations. Each student is required to attend a minimum of 60% of CLASS seminars during the academic year. They must attend and fully participate in a post-seminar discussion forum with the guest speaker and ask questions in 50% of sessions attended. They will be required to (i) chair at least one post-seminar discussion forum and (ii) provide a 1 page evaluation of at least one seminar / student session.

What does it cover?

National and international scientists working in areas related to Conway research programmes are invited to present their research and share their experiences with Conway researchers.

  • Have developed critical thinking skills on the scientific process;
  • Have experienced leading a discussion in scientific seminars
