Coffee Morning: Simon Hodge

Dirty Dairy and Bedroom Bees

Simon Hodge's research interests cover a wide range of topics, from sustainable and organic agriculture, to investigating the ecology of coastal insect communities. There are now several initiatives designed to minimise the environmental harm caused by intensive agriculture and associated high inputs of fertilizers and agrichemicals. Other, complementary, schemes aim to increase farmland biodiversity by conserving or enhancing the quantity and quality of semi-natural habitat available for wild plants and animals.  In this short talk, using examples from dairy and tillage farming, Simon indicates how these approaches can work in tandem, and be investigated within a general framework of more sustainable agriculture.
