UCD SVHG Translational Medicine Symposium 2019

The second annual UCD SVHG Translational Medicine Symposium took place in the ERC on Friday 7 June.

This one day, CPD accredited Symposium, designed to highlight the significant internationally renowned research activity at the hospital covered an impressive array of expert clinical speakers on medical research innovations ranging from: improving care for the Frail Older People, Cardiothoracic Imaging trials, Nurse Practitioners leadership, patient involvement in research; Acute Kidney injury; Inflammatory Bowel Disease; Colorectal cancer and Rheumatoid Arthritis.

The Symposium was opened by Mr. James Mentor, Chairman SVHG Board and by Prof. Orla Feely, Vice President for Research in UCD.

The keynote address was given by Prof. Joe Duffy who has led the Breast Cancer Research Group here in St. Vincent’s for many years. Joe gave a comprehensive outline of his ground-breaking work in understanding molecules that predict outcome in breast cancer.

Ms. Kay Connolly CEO presented the oral and poster prizes.

The UCD SVHG Translational Medicine Symposium emphasises the overall scope of the research programme being delivered here in St. Vincent’s Healthcare Group. The Symposium is a platform for showcasing the excellence in science happening right here on our campus. High-impact research (as gauged by international peer-reviewed outputs) is being delivered by leading clinicians here in Dublin and across our three hospitals in SVHG and in conjunction with our academic partner UCD. Our academically acclaimed clinicians are at the forefront of modern medical research and scientific innovation on an international level. This scientific innovation was clearly reflected in the programme of presentations delivered covering advances in modern medicine.

Over 100 clinical, scientific and multidisciplinary staff attended.
