Innovation Dublin, a week long festival of workshops, events and showcases highlighting and encouraging innovation and creativity in Dublin was announced today by Councillor Eibhlin Byrne, Lord Mayor of Dublin. Innovation Dublin is an initiative of the Creative Dublin Alliance and is being co-ordinated by Dublin's local authorities, business groups, colleges, including UCD, organisations and individuals.
Innovation Dublin will run from 14-20 October 2009 and will be organised around six themes:
1. Social
2. Cultural
3. Urban Form
4. Movement
5. Education/Innovation/Environment
6. Economic.
In her address, The Lord Mayor of Dublin announced the details of this exciting event and also give a call for ideas to companies, organisations and individuals to get involved and showcase their innovation. The Lord Mayor also launched the Innovation Dublin website where people can view an information video, register their interest and submit ideas and suggestions.
"Dublin is a creative and innovative city. That creativity and innovation will ensure Dublin's position as a leading European city for enterprise and as a real player on the global stage. Harnessing "Innovation Dublin" is a challenge for all of us and I call on everybody to play their part in making Dublin "a creative capital for the 21st century" said Lord Mayor Eibhlin Byrne.
The Creative Dublin Alliance is a network of diverse leaders that meet to discuss and implement solutions in response to the challenges that Dublin faces as an internationally competitive city region. The aim of the Alliance is to progress new levels of innovation and in collaboration with all key parties, to promote Dublin as a creative and world-class city.
