For 2023 the IYPA invited young people from around the world to think about the theme of belonging.

Belonging seems to constitute a crucial aspect of our lives and has been related to a fundamental need for human interdependence or to be accepted as a valuable member of a group, for example, in terms of family, friends, colleagues, nation-states, the world, and so on. The topic of belonging becomes ever more important in the current time where people face sudden displacement because of war, poverty, and the climate crisis, or due to experiences of exclusion, or racism, gender and sexual discrimination, for example.

MAP Dublin Chapter presented this video at the recent Irish Young Philosophy and Youth on Trust Awards 24 and 25 May 2022.

On World Philosophy Day 18th November 2021 watch Senator Alice-Mary Higgins launch the 2022 Irish and International Young Philosopher of the Year Awards. The Young Philosopher and The Youth on Trust Awards are supported by The UCD Centre for Ethics in Public Life and PERITIA (Policy, Expertise and Trust).

President Michael D. Higgins presented the Young Philosopher Awards, at a ceremony in UCD. The Awards were launched by President Higgins in November 2017, in response to the President’s calls—in the context of the President of Ireland Ethics Initiative—for greater reflection and debate about the type of skills citizens need in our rapidly changing society.
