Ad Astra

The Ad Astra Academic scholarship programme fosters academic potential in high achieving students. Scholars take part in an Ad Astra Academy programme that includes overseas summer schools, advanced mentoring, research and study opportunities as well as personal development activities such as volunteering and career-building

UCD Elite Athlete Programme

The UCD Ad Astra Academy has been developed for students who are competing at the highest available level in their chosen sport and who have identifiable potential for further improvement. 

BSocSc Sociology Scholarship Stage 2

Scholarships will be awarded to the 3 top students in each a) Sociology and b) Social Policy provided the student obtains a minimum GPA of 3.40 for the modules in the discipline and passes Stage 1 overall.

Undergraduate (Bachelor) Global Excellence Scholarship

All successful applicants to eligible full time programmes who pay non-EU fees and reside in the following countries: China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand or the USA.

Funding - Masters Students Heading

 

The Mary Kelly Bursaries comprise an award of €2,000 towards university fees to students who have been accepted to one of the School of Sociology one-year 90 credit taught masters programmes.

Bachelor of Social Science Graduate Scholarship(opens in a new window)

Up to two postgraduate students (with the highest GPA score) who achieve an overall GPA of 3.68 in the BSocSc and the four-year BSocSc (International) and who are proceeding to higher degrees at this University may be awarded scholarships of €2,540 per annum. 

UCD Cothrom na Féinne Graduate Scholarships (Widening Participation scholarship)

Access & Lifelong Learning delivers a range of initiatives to facilitate widening participation in UCD, including outreach, admissions and student support. Through UCD Access and Lifelong Learning, students from a variety of backgrounds including mature students, school leavers from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds and those with a disability are encouraged to progress and succeed at UCD.

School of Sociology Graduate Scholarships 

PhD Scholarship funding is under review in the academic year 2023/2024 in line with national guidelines on funded scholars. There are currently no scholarships available, but it is hoped that the School can provide Scholarship offerings in the future.

Bachelor of Social Science Graduate Scholarship

Up to two postgraduate students (with the highest GPA score) who achieve an overall GPA of 3.68 in the BSocSc and the four-year BSocSc (International) and who are proceeding to higher degrees at this University may be awarded scholarships of €2,540 per annum. Subject to acceptance on a course and to satisfactory compliance with the normal requirements for completing a course, the scholarships are tenable for a maximum of two years' consecutive full-time (or four years consecutive part-time) study in the case of the Diploma or the Master's Degrees in the College of Human Sciences listed below, a maximum of three years’ consecutive full-time study in the case of the PhD and a maximum of three years’ full-time (or six years consecutive part-time) study, with consecutive registration, in the case of a student who pursues a Master's Degree immediately followed by the PhD in the areas covered by the degrees listed below (any extension to this will be subject to review by the College Principal). The Social Science Programme Board may also consider other Graduate Degrees or Higher/Graduate Diplomas offered within the College of Human Sciences as being suitable in individual circumstances.

Bachelor of Arts Graduate Scholarship

In any year, the availability of and number of Scholarships will be recommended by the BA Programme Board to the Principal of the College of Arts and Celtic Studies and the Principal of the College of Human Sciences for their approval. To be considered for an award, a student must have applied for a UCD graduate programme, as set out below, prior to a date set annually by the BA Programme Board.
A student must have a degree GPA of at least 3.68 (including electives) and a subject-based GPA of at least 3.68 based on at least 50 programme credits in the subject at Stage 2. This excludes electives.

The IRC manages a suite of inter-linked research schemes, funding scholars at various career stages, from postgraduate study to senior research project-based awards. For early stage researchers these include the Government of Ireland Post-Graduate Scholarships and Government of Ireland Post-Doctoral Fellowships, which fund research at pre- and post-doctoral levels, and the Research Development Initiative Scheme, which allows researchers and research teams to expand their activities into new research areas by way of stimulus project grants and knowledge transfer initiatives.

This is an innovative initiative where the Irish Research Council links with private enterprise and eligible public bodies to award co-funded postgraduate scholarships and postdoctoral fellowships to the most promising researchers in Ireland.

Fulbright US student awards (approximately €16,000) enable US graduate students to spend one academic year studying or researching in Ireland.

Sponsored by the US-Ireland Alliance The Mitchell Scholars Program is designed to introduce and connect generations of future American leaders to the island of Ireland, while recognising and fostering intellectual achievement, leadership, and a commitment to community and public service.

Up to twelve Mitchell Scholars between the ages of 18 and 30 are chosen annually for one year of graduate study in Irish Universities, including UCD.

The Naughton Fellowships allow students with a background in, or aptitude for, STEM fields to experience international research and educational opportunities through a funded exchange program involving the University of Notre Dame and some of Ireland’s leading research universities. Irish undergraduates, master’s students, and Ph.D. candidates can come to Notre Dame on the fellowship, while Notre Dame undergraduates, master’s students, and Ph.D. candidates can travel to Ireland to study and complete research. 

 

(opens in a new window)Universities Ireland - North/South Postgraduate Scholarship 

The aim of the North/South Scholarship scheme is to encourage outstanding students from the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland to cross the border to undertake postgraduate study and experience life in the other Irish jurisdiction.  Each year, Universities Ireland offers four scholarships, each worth €15,000.

 

(opens in a new window)Irish Aid Fellowship Training Programme

Each year, the Irish Aid Fellowship Training Programme brings suitably qualified candidates from developing countries to undertake graduate studies at colleges and universities in Ireland. Awards are made in fields such as development studies, rural development, health care, education and law.

The programme is one of the ways in which Irish Aid supports capacity development in its partner countries in Africa and Asia.
