International Foundation Year Programme

The International Foundation Year is a three-term programme, specifically designed for international students who do not meet the requirement for entry to UCD bachelor programmes.

 

 

If you do not meet direct entry requirements for the degree you want, you can apply for a place on the International Foundation Year.

The International Foundation Year is specifically designed for international students who need additional study before starting an undergraduate degree programme at UCD.

If you have successful completed your HKCEE and Form 5, you are required to complete the International Foundation Year Programme before entering on to the first year of a UCD Bachelor programme. Students who have completed their HKDSE but do not meet the entry requirements to UCD Bachelor programme may also apply to the International Foundatio Year Programme. Depending on the degree you want to access, you can choose from two routes:

The course consists of core modules and subject-specific modules. You will study four core subject modules and six subject-specific modules designed to focus on the academic areas most useful for your degree.

The International Foundation Year is a three-term programme, specifically designed for international students who do not meet the requirement for entry to UCD bachelor programmes*.

The programme combines study skills, English language training and academic study to prepare you for degree-level study.

International Foundation Year Programme Entry Requirements

Academic Entry Requirements

You must apply with successful completion of the HKCEE with 3 x D's and 1 E in academic subjects or Form 5 in a minimum of 4 academic subjects (grades will be assessed on a case by case basis). Application to the programme using a HKDSE with minimum grades 223 in relevant subjects will also be possible.

English Language Requirements

Teaching in Irish Universities is through the medium of English, therefore all applicants are required to demonstrate a high level of competence in English language. Students are required to met either one of the following English Language requirements. 

  • Have an IELTS Score of 5.0 or above (Writing score must be of 5.0 and above)
  • Have a TOEFL iBT Score with no individual section low than the stated (Listening 15, Reading 13, Speaking 18, Writing 15
