Pre-Professional Study Abroad Programmes

Information for non-EU students interested in studying abroad at UCD. Find out about entry criteria, tuition fees, how to apply and who to contact for further information.

As an American College student, you are welcome to study abroad at UCD for a semester or a full-year.

The UCD North America team will support you before you leave home, when you first arrive and throughout your time at UCD.

Our aim is for you to get the most out of your experience academically, culturally and socially.

You can take up to six modules (classes) per semester at UCD. You can register for less than six modules with permission from your home university.  Study abroad students have access to the full range of undergraduate modules available at UCD*

(* subject to capacity and timetabling).  You can register for two modules outside your subject area.

You will be pre-registered for modules before you arrive at UCD and in most cases, you will have up to two weeks after the start of term to change your modules.

Average weekly course-load: 12 lecture hours

Application Deadlines

Fall Semester/Full academic year: May 1st

Spring Semester: October 15th

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for any UCD Study Abroad programme, you should hold a GPA of 3.00 and submit your transcript as part of the application process

Application Process

You can apply for study abroad programmes on-line. After you complete the on-line form, you will be prompted to upload your transcript to our system.

You should apply for the UCD Study Abroad programme in the academic area where you are taking most of your modules. Please see below for the list of programmes.

Pre-Medical

  • This programme has been developed in consultation with Pre-Medical advisors at leading universities in the USA
  • This study abroad programme is for you if you are a Pre-Med student who wants to experience the clinical environment during your study abroad year
  • You will attend lectures and laboratory classes which are delivered by lecturers who are at the forefront of both teaching and research

Pre-Veterinary

  • Study Abroad at UCD’s American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) accredited School of Veterinary Medicine and get a flavour of day-to day life at its Veterinary Teaching Hospital.
  • UCD Veterinary Hospital caters for small animals, horses and farm animals. The UCD Farm at Lyons Estate, 15 Km south of the campus, is also used for teaching and research.
  • This study abroad programme is for you if you are planning to go to veterinary school following graduation and entering the veterinary profession.

Pre-Law

  • UCD Law School is the largest in Ireland and home to the only Institute of Criminology in the country and the Commercial Law Centre.
