The Board of the Adoption Authority and the Research Subcommittee are delighted to announce the publication of research which was commissioned by the Authority and carried out by Dr Valerie O’Brien and Dr Sahana Mitra on adoption in Ireland in the period 1952 to 2017.

This published research comprises two reports and searchable database. Click titles below to access each report: Report 1: ‘An Audit of Research on Adoption in Ireland 1952−2017’ Report 2: ‘An Overview of Policy and Legislative Change in Ireland 1952−2017’ Appendix D: A searchable database of Irish adoption research is provided separately as an appendix to Report 1.

Dr O’Brien and Dr Mitra’s audit of adoption research and overview of adoption policy and legislative change in Ireland will provide a useful guide to anyone involved in the area of adoption in this country.
“The Authority is committed to adoption research, and to that end has established a research subcommittee and will shortly announce the appointment of its first full-time executive research post”. Dr Geoffrey Shannon, Chairman
The research reports are published under ‘Other Publications’ on the AAI website. Established under the Adoption Act, 2010 the Adoption Authority of Ireland (the Authority) is an independent quasi-judicial statutory body appointed by Government for the purposes of regulating adoption in Ireland.
