Governance

The UCD Charles Institute is affiliated with the following: UCD School of Medicine, UCD-affiliated University Teaching Hospitals (incl. St Vincent’s University Hospital & Mater Misericordiae University Hospital) and the Board of Governors of the City of Dublin Skin and Cancer Hospital Charity (CDSCHC). The Charles Institute also interacts with researchers in other UCD schools, especially the School Biomolecular & Biomedical Science (Conway Institute), and Systems BIology Ireland. 

The Institute is guided by a UCD Charles Institute Board of Directors, chaired currently by the Principal of the College of Health and Agricultural Sciences (Prof. Cecily Kelliher). Its membership currently include: the UCD Vice-President for Research, Innovation and Impact (Prof. Orla Feely); the Dean of Medicine (Prof. Michael Keane); and representatives of the following groups: UCD affiliated hospitals (2 members); the Irish Skin Foundation, CDSCHC (2 members), Charity sector (1 member), and UCD appointees (business sector, 2 members).

Reporters to this board include: The Chair/Full Professor of Dermatology/Director of the Charles Institute (Prof. Des Tobin) and the Finance Manager of CHAS.

This Board meets quarterly, and is responsible for general oversight and developing strategy in conjunction with the Director, monitoring performance of the Institute versus set targets, enforcing the Code of Ethics, providing oversight of the Institute’s relationship with UCD and with financial planning.
