Support while abroad

To support and assist our students when traveling on university-affiliated trips, UCD maintains a partnership with International SOS (ISOS). ISOS is the world's leading medical and security consultation service. ISOS is not an insurance provider; it is an assistance provider.

As a registered UCD student, you are eligible to access the ISOS membership benefits free of charge. Before your travel, we encourage you to learn more about these benefits, download the ISOS App, register your trip with ISOS, and access the membership services to make the most of your travel abroad.

International SOS

International SOS provides you with assurance that you will be assisted for any health, wellbeing, security issue ranging from minor issue to emergency situations that may arise during your exchange.  One phone call connects you to the International SOS network of multilingual specialists for immediate help. International SOS services are designed to help you with medical, personal, travel, and security problems when away from home. Call International SOS at any time to speak with a physician or security specialist about simple or critical matters.

Carry the International SOS membership card with you at all times. It includes the telephone numbers of the major worldwide International SOS Assistance Centres. In the event of a medical/security issue or query arising, call one of the emergency phone numbers listed on the card or use your Assistance App to call or chat with someone for assistance. You can print your card at any time by going to the online portal, logging in with the UCD membership number and clicking on the Membership ID on the right side of the page.

Before you travel

The International SOS Assistance App is a critical tool in your travel safety toolkit. A 24-hour travel companion, the App provides quick and easy access to vital information on your travel destination, including country guides and updates about ongoing and developing medical and security situations as well as COVID-19 travel restrictions.

You can use the App to explore and save destination risk guides and sign up for proactive alerts for your exchange country before you travel so you can be prepared before you leave home. In the event you do need assistance while you're away, use the App to get the help you need. Whether you require urgent medical attention, encounter a security incident or lose important documents, a team of 7,500 doctors, nurses and security experts are ready to provide immediate support, anytime, anywhere around the globe.

Make sure to download the Assistance App from the Apple or Google Play stores before you travel.

When you log in to the portal, select Membership Overview and e-Guide and you can access an ‘Introduction to Membership’ course, which will take 15 minutes to complete and will guide you through the supports offered by International SOS.

Use the website to familiarise yourself with the information and services available.

International SOS will send you a Pre-Trip Advisory (PTA) in advance of your travel to update you on your destination. We recommend you review this for the latest information.

This form will ensure that you have completed all the requirements for UCD and sent us your insurance policy details (provider and policy number). We will email you separately about this.

The recording of the UCD Global Pre-Departure briefing is available here.

You can also call one of the International SOS Assistance Centres for a pre-travel update on your host country.
