Internships and Work Experience at UCD
Erasmus+ Traineeships
The Erasmus+ Traineeship programme covers work experience/traineeships abroad in EU member states and (opens in a new window) third countries associated with the programme . UCD Global supports incoming and outgoing trainees, but does not arrange placements for incoming students.
To be accepted at UCD as an Erasmus+ trainee, you must:
- Find a member of academic staff who will agree to supervise you.
- Once agreed, email the UCD Traineeship team at (opens in a new window)erasmus.traineeships@ucd.ie with your supervisor’s details and your proposed dates. UCD Global will then guide you through the application and registration.
- If you are a non-EU/EEA citizen, please be aware that you may require a visa in order to come to Ireland. Obtaining a visa is strictly the student’s responsibility; please contact the Irish Embassy in your home country for further information.
Requirements
Traineeships must be more than 60 and fewer than 360 calendar days for undergraduate and Master’s students. PhD researchers may undertake the same duration as well as shorter mobility for 5–30 days.
Accommodation
Incoming traineeship students are not eligible for accommodation on campus. UCD Global will provide information and resources for living off campus.

Information for Supervisors
For UCD Staff Supervising a Trainee
Academics across UCD may receive requests to supervise a trainee. It is not a requirement of the Erasmus+ programme that an exchange agreement is in place for a traineeship.
Before accepting the request, UCD Global recommends that the academic ensure that they are in a position to support the student on a day-to-day basis for the agreed period of time. It is essential that the student has access to the supports needed, including a conducive learning environment (in other words, a desk or lab space, access to facilities, and contact people they can reach out to for support).
The academic will need to be involved in the filling and signing of the following forms; the Learning Agreement (where the learning outcomes of the traineeship are recognised), and the Arrival and Departure Certificate.
The academic must liaise with UCD Global to make sure that the trainee is fully registered as a UCD student, and should refer them to (opens in a new window)erasmus.traineeships@ucd.ie.
UCD Global does not fund incoming traineeship students. Student will typically receive a grant from their home institution.
Please note that there is no on-campus accommodation available for incoming traineeship students.
