COVID-19 Rapid Response Calls

In direct response to the pandemic outbreak and in full recognition of the need for further research, development and innovation on a global and national scale, the national research funding agencies have launched TWO NEW FUNDING CALLS.  Of key importance is the  (opens in a new window)WHO Global Research Roadmap and, in particular, the highlighted immediate priorities and knowledge gaps. 

Competitive proposals and applicants MUST BE:

  • Immediately Responsive
  • Innovative
  • Feasible
  • Address Significant Problems
  • Be able to deliver Immediate Positive Impact
  • Demonstrate sufficient Expertise and Track record 
  • Be Ready to make a Significant Difference to the COVID-19 crisis.

Applicants are advised to consider best fit with either call.  Note these calls are unlike other calls! 

The two calls are:

1. Science Foundation Ireland (SFI), Enterprise Ireland (EI), and IDA Ireland Joint Rapid Response Call

This is an agile and adaptive initiative to support the development of innovative solutions (including STEM-based, social/behavioural science) that can have rapid demonstrable impact on the current COVID-19 crisis in Ireland.

2. Health Research Board (HRB) and Irish Research Council Joint Rapid Response Call

The research priorities of this call are aligned with the WHO R&D Blueprint  and informed by the Global Infectious Disease Collaboration for International Disease Preparedness (GloPID-R). The scope of this funding call covers medical countermeasures, health service readiness, and social and policy countermeasures to COVID-19.

We at UCD Research and Innovation will be fast tracking and providing priority support for COVID-19 proposals specifically ideation, compliance, proposal development, proposal feedback, proposal support, budget preparation and grant registration.  Our key aim will be to facilitate the submission competitive solution focused proposals.
