The Authority of Knowledge: How to Reconcile Experts with Democracy
What should be the role of experts in political decision-making? How does the appeal to expertise structure politics and shape our experience of democracy? What can technocracy and populism – two forms of politics that characterise contemporary Western democracies – tell us about the trustworthiness of policy related expert opinion? I aim to answer these questions in my research, working within the new discipline of political epistemology and the Horizon 2020 project PERITIA – Policy, Expertise and Trust.
