I would like to give you a warm welcome to the UCD School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health Systems. Our mission is to support the ongoing professional development of the nursing and midwifery professions in Ireland and globally, and to support excellence in health systems operations and research.  Ultimately our aim is to foster and support optimum health and well-being of all people throughout the life span. Through excellence in national and global nursing, midwifery and health systems education and research we work alongside our healthcare partners to prepare graduates who provide skilled, compassionate, evidence-based healthcare.

The School is a leading educator of professionals both in Ireland and globally. We have educated a large number of graduates who have developed a thirst for lifelong learning.  Our alumni are top in their field and many of them now occupy senior positions in health and social care and other disciplines both nationally and globally and are leading out on innovations in many diverse areas. The School has an excellent track record in graduate employment and alumni outcomes and is preparing some of the finest graduates in the world. The School is also renowned for its excellence. Established in 2000 it led out on the professionalisation of nursing and midwifery in Ireland, pioneering many well established undergraduate and post graduate programmes. It is now one of the largest Schools of its kind in the country, with a large number of expertly prepared faculty ,and offers a broad range of educational offerings that assures maximum flexibility in the context of teaching excellence. Students are exposed to cutting edge research and practice in state-of-the-art facilities.

As a globally high-ranking School we have a sustained trajectory of providing research led programmes within a dynamic global university. We are unique internationally in hosting a cutting-edge health systems programme of research and exemplary in the scale of our global engagement, extensive network of health service partnerships and the number of faculty holding joint appointments.  Our research programmes transcend disciplinary boundaries and contribute to the enhancement of person-centred care and leadership within the profession through the growth and development of significant areas of research . We host a global PhD school and an annual successful global summer school and are continuing to develop the school as a global centre of excellence in nursing, midwifery and health systems that showcase the translation and impact of UCD generated research findings at national and global level. We provide an inclusive education that encourages graduates to thrive, and we consistently engage with community networks and partners to enhance our strategic growth, development and impact.
