Maternal Research About

About

The Maternal Health Research Group will be renowned for achieving excellence in transformative, sustainable midwifery and maternity care research that will make a positive difference to the lives and health of women and their families in pregnancy, during labour and childbirth and postpartum (up to 12 months). We will prioritise research that will have local, national and global significance and which promotes collaboration by involving women and their partners, maternity care providers in our partner maternity hospitals, national and international colleagues, and enterprise. Our Research Areas and Projects

The Maternal Health Research Group actively supports and conducts evidence syntheses in maternity care. Evidence synthesis involves combining information from multiple studies investigating the same topic to comprehensively understand their findings. This helps determine how effective a particular treatment is, or how people have experienced a particular health condition or area of maternal health care. By using evidence synthesis effectively, policymakers, healthcare institutions, clinicians, researchers, and the public can make more informed decisions about health and healthcare.

JRN NMH

Joint Research Network

As part of on-going development of maternity services at the National Maternity Hospital (NMH) the Director of Midwifery and Nursing recognised that research links between the NMH and their education partners, University College Dublin, School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health System should be formalised. The Joint Research Network (JRN) was thus established in 2007 by Mary Brosnan and Prof Michelle Butler to develop a research culture for midwives, student midwives and nurses.

The vision and goals of the JRN were to translate evidence-based midwifery and nursing knowledge into practice. Since 2007, the JRN has expanded and evolved to include our Ireland East Hospital Group partners.
