Dorit Barchana-Lorand
Visiting Researcher
After teaching at several academic institutions in Israel and the United States, Dorit Barchana-Lorand currently serves as a senior lecturer at Kibbutzim College in Tel Aviv, where she recently completed a five-year term as head of theoretical and pedagogical studies in the Art Department. Dr Barchana-Lorand teaches courses in aesthetics, ethics, history of philosophy, visual literacy, and academic writing.
As a researcher in aesthetics, Dorit Barchana-Lorand’s research interests have evolved from the purely philosophical engagement with Kant’s aesthetics in her Oxford DPhil to exploring the intersection of art, education, and society. Following the publication of her three-volume monograph Introduction to Aesthetics (2024, in Hebrew, Israeli Open University), her newest work, Philosophical Questions in Art Education, was recently published by Bloomsbury in September 2025. She is currently writing on censorship from her perspective as an aesthetician.
