Terminal Assessment - FAQs for Students in School of Sociology – SPRING TRIMESTER 2020/2021

General questions around assessment are answered here. The below are specific to the School:

I can’t complete my online exam(s)/essay(s) on the day(s)/time(s) allotted to me – what do I do?

You can note the issue on the online Late Submission of Coursework Form which you will find in the Brightspace area for the module(s) in question. In some cases, the MC may be able to facilitate a late submission, but in others it will not be possible due to the grading deadline. You should make an application for Extenuating Circumstances so that the most appropriate solution can be offered to you in the event that a late submission isn’t feasible.

I can’t access Brightspace/I’m having technical issues – what do I do?

You can contact the IT Helpdesk at (01) 716 2700 or by emailing (opens in a new window)ithelpdesk@ucd.ie

I uploaded the wrong assignment/I uploaded an unfinished assignment/I uploaded one file with one question and now can’t submit another file - what do I do?

Don’t panic.  Email (opens in a new window)Sociology@ucd.ie and one of our administrators will help by deleting the uploaded material so that you can upload the correct file.  If there are delays and you have missed the submission date/time due to this issue, please note it on the late submission of coursework online form which you will find in the Brightspace area of the module.  Any issues will be resolved once the form is processed and you will be contacted by the School advising of the outcome.

I filled out the late submission of coursework form and have not heard anything back yet – what do I do?

The School Office receives a large volume of applications and MC’s make decisions on the applications as soon as they can.  You will be communicated with as soon as possible and you will be given time to take the necessary and appropriate action.

I am registered with the Access & Lifelong Learning Centre and I usually get extra time to complete examinations.  Will I be given extra time?

During the COVID-19 crisis it is recognized that every student may be affected by studying and carrying out assessments remotely.  Extra time has been granted to every student within the 3-hour window for online examinations, or extended deadlines for terminal assessment via essay where this accommodation has been granted to you.  As a student registered with the Access & Lifelong Learning Centre, you can rest assured that the exam accommodations that you have been granted will apply to your very particular circumstances.
