UCD's Centre for Sustainable Development Hosts a Global Conference on Food Security and Sovereignty in Sub-Saharan Africa
On 11–12 September 2025, the Centre for Sustainable Development (CSD), University College Dublin, based in SPIRe, welcomed academics, policymakers, development practitioners, and civil society leaders for the international conference Accelerating Food Security and Sovereignty in Sub-Saharan Africa: Innovation, Inclusion, and Transformation for a Resilient Future.
Co-organised with the African Development Bank and supported by Irish Aid and Research Ireland, the conference explored the urgent challenges facing food and nutrition security in Sub-Saharan Africa, including climate change, inequality, and conflict. Across two days, speakers shared pioneering research and practical innovations — from digital solutions and impact investment to climate-smart agriculture and gender-inclusive approaches.
The event offered a vibrant platform for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and action, underscoring UCD’s commitment to advancing sustainability and global partnerships.
