SPIRe Application Procedure for Research Ireland Applicants

Anyone wishing to apply for a Research Ireland scholarship and to be based in SPIRe must do the following:

  • Identify and start working informally with a SPIRe faculty member at least a few months in advance of the Research Ireland application deadlines.
The academic research areas of faculty can be found here
  • Submit a formal application to SPIRe within the timeframes noted below
Provisional Timeframe*

The school application timeframe for this coincides with the (opens in a new window)Research Ireland timeframes but generally opens at the end of August and closes in early September.

Opens: 1st September 2026
Closes: 11th September 2026
* This will depend on the Research Ireland application dates and may be adjusted when the call for 2027 goes live

** The application process will be detailed closer to the next application opening date**

As part of the application process, applicants will be asked to note the academic(s) with whom they have been working. Please do not apply to the SPIRe programme unless you have already been working informally with a SPIRe colleague.
