GSK VP & Global Head of Engineering, GSK Consumer Healthcare, David Barnewell (BE 1985) visits UCD
Monday, 5 February, 2018
DAVID BARNEWELL (UCD BE ChemE 1985) with current UCD students (L-R) Fiona Jacob & Rachel Maher (Stage 2 Chemical & Bioprocess Engineering) and Abeer Shahid (ME student in Chemical & Bioprocess Engineering).
The UCD School of Chemical & Bioprocess Engineering welcomed DAVID BARNEWELL (UCD BE 1985), back to UCD, to talk to current Chemical & Bioprocess Engineering students about Careers for Chemical Engineers. Drawing from his own experiences, from his first job, as a young Chemical Engineering graduate, with Jacobs Engineering, to his current role as VP & Head of Global Engineering with GSK, David spoke candidly about the opportunities open to UCD graduates. He emphasised the importance of combining the strong academic background which characterises UCD Engineering graduates with the transferable skills, global outlook and rich extra-curricular profile valued by employers: "While you'll be interviewed on the basis of your academic record and your CV, you'll be hired on the basis of your personality and your ability to perform as a productive member of a team."
