About

Meeting society’s diverse challenges and the opportunities that lie ahead are reflected in the educational and research themes of the UCD School of Civil Engineering.

About the School

Civil Engineers are responsible for many of the things that we take for granted on a day to day basis. They design the power stations that provide our electricity, the reservoirs and treatment facilities that provide clean water every time we turn on a tap, the motorways we drive on and the traffic systems in our cities.  Civil engineering is very much concerned with the environment: reducing pollution, designing waste management and recycling strategies, defending the coast from erosion and reusing building materials in our roads.  Within civil engineering there are four main fields, there are new specialisations within these fields emerging all the time.
