Una Europa Challenge - Data Science & AI for Social Welfare

 Apply now for an intensive, five-day programme at UCM (Madrid), designed for doctoral and early-career researchers who are passionate about creating ethical and socially responsible AI solutions for social good.

Participants will work on real-world challenges and design AI tools that address important social issues, guided by the principles of AI for Good with a strong focus on ethics, bias, and human rights.

The programme combines hands-on co-designed activities – like hackathons and youth design assemblies – with expert ethical support. 

Up to 3 UCD researchers will be selected; travel & registration costs will be covered by UCD.

'Alliance' / Una Europa student visual art contest  

How has unity, diversity and heritage shaped your university experience? Do you feel like cultural heritage has an impact on your university, your studies or your life as a student?

The Una Europa Student Visual Art Contest is a platform to share your vision and creativity with the whole Una Europa community. Express your vision through painting, photography, digital art, mixed media, or another creative form.

The prize include fully funded attendance at this year’s Una Europa Student Congress, in Paris in November 2025.

Researchers interested in AI/data science funding opportunities  

Data Science/AI virtual matchmaking 

The Una Europa Focus Area 'Data Science and Artificial Intelligence' is organising a virtual matchmaking session, to bring together researchers from the 11 partner universities interested on funding opportunities from Horizon Europe Clusters.

The matchmaking session is expected to take place around mid May. Exact date TBC.

The matchmaking session will focus on calls receiving the most interest across the alliance.

First and Second Year PhD researchers studying Law, Social Sciences or Humanities, specialising in global governance or 'Europe and the World'; plus PhD supervisors in these areas

Interdisciplinary training programme for doctoral researchers & supervisors | Europe and the World 

This interdisciplinary doctoral training programme is for candidates from social sciences, humanities and law domains who are working on topics related to global governance and Europe’s place in the world. Researchers and PhD supervisors can apply to participate. 

Explore cutting-edge methods, tools and best practices through two online sessions and a week-long in-person training at Universiteit Leiden. Grow your network and have inspiring conversations with academics, policymakers and publishers.

There is no tuition fee. Up to 3 PhD students and up to 3 supervisors from UCD will be selected; travel and accommodation costs will be covered by UCD.

Doctoral researchers with a basic knowledge of food systems and an interest in alternative proteins / protein transition research

Una Europa Summer School for doctoral researchers | Sustainable Food Systems

The Una Europa Summer School on Sustainable Food Systems, hosted by Helsingin yliopisto/Helsingfors universitet in Finland, will engage PhD researchers in an open and stimulating environment to tackle challenges connected to the sustainability transition of global and national food systems. Participants will have the chance to dive deep into sustainable food systems and protein transition, connect with researchers and academics from across Una Europa, and develop more transdisciplinary knowledge. A number of UCD students will be awarded a travel bursary to support their attendance.

Una Europa Seed Funding Call 2025 

Una Europa invites researchers from all disciplines to a webinar to launch the Una Europa Seed Funding Call 2025.

This year's Seed Funding Call includes an option to involve international university partners beyond the existing alliance partners.

Up to 10 projects will be funded, with a maximum budget of €40,000 per project.

PhD researchers from diverse disciplines with an interest in One Health

Una Europa Summer School for doctoral researchers | Bridging disciplines for One Health solutions

Apply now for the Una Europa Summer School, hosted by Freie Universität Berlin.  

Participants will explore the concept of One Health (the intersection of human, animal, and environmental health) at a deeper level and broaden their understanding of this framework from interdisciplinary viewpoints in a structured series of courses and workshops.

Una Europa Summer School for doctoral researchers | Innovative Methods in Future materials 

Hosted by Universidad Complutense de Madrid and co-organised with Alma Mater Studiorum - Università di Bologna.

This Summer School brings together master’s students, doctoral researchers, and academic staff from Una Europa universities for an interdisciplinary exploration of Future Materials. The programme focuses on cutting-edge techniques for material preparation and characterisation, blending theoretical insights with hands-on experience in a dynamic international environment.

Una Europa Summer School for doctoral researchers | Artificial Intelligence & Creativity

Apply now for the Una Europa Summer School, hosted by Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. Explore the relationship between AI and creativity, connect with doctoral researchers and academics from across Una Europa, and develop transdisciplinary knowledge through challenge-based learning, workshops, and meetings with experts and artists. 

The programme includes an online pre-meeting and introduction course on 5 and 10 June, followed by a week of courses, workshops and meetings in Paris in July.
